Using Local Data to Address Early Childhood School Readiness

Description:

This cross-site initiative is being conducted by Urban Institute, with funding from Annie E. Casey Foundation. This program is designed to support data-driven policy advocacy around children’s issues in major American cities. The particular focus of this program is school readiness (broadly defined to include healthy social, emotional, and physical child development) and early-grade school success (including school attendance and achievement) and outcomes at the neighborhood level. Participating sites include: Atlanta, Chattanooga, Cleveland, Denver, Indianapolis, Memphis, Miami, Milwaukee, and Providence.

In Indianapolis, our focus is in the neighborhoods of Martindale-Brightwood and Southeast. We will use neighborhood-level data available in the SAVI Community Information system and collect new data to support the local analysis around this issue. Other aspects of the project involve assessing data and service gaps and working with local partners to address both.
