Strategic Needs Assessment for GIS and Data Analysis at Lumina Foundation

Description: This strategic needs assessment evaluated the need and potential for GIS and spatially-enabled data in Lumina Foundation’s grant planning, management, and evaluation processes. The purpose of this project was to demonstrate the utility of GIS for Lumina Foundation in understanding its grants within a spatial framework and aid it in analyzing the impact of those grants on state and regional higher education preparedness and underserved student populations. This analysis occurred in two ways: The Polis Center prepared maps for the Foundation’s strategic planning process using data from its grants database, and while doing so, we conducted a high-level assessment of data and analysis needs with Foundation staff.
