Community Assets & Cancer Screening in Low-Income Women

Description:

This research explores the individual and community characteristics of low-income women who are regular, irregular, and non-users of breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screening. SAVI data (www.savi.org) provided community socio-economic variables and allowed the analysis of spatial clusters of each type of screening. This study determined the relationship between community organization frequency within census tracts and cancer screening use in low-income women within corresponding census tracts. Using SAVI data, it also identified target neighborhoods for community outreach and community assets for potential community partners.
