Personal Profile:

Kevin is Director of Professional Education for The Polis Center at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Loma Linda University School of Public Health Department of Environmental Engineering, and an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Geography at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. The Polis Education program, created and developed through his leadership, currently offers more than two dozen technical and theoretical courses in Indianapolis as well as on-site at client locations throughout the country. This nationally recognized program has supported the needs of hundreds of organizations including the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Department of Labor, the National Library of Medicine, and many state and local government, private sector, academic, and not-for-profit entities. Instructional experience includes nearly 20 years of ESRI, Intergraph, and AutoDesk education in introductory through advanced applications including the ArcGIS product and many of its extensions. Kevin is an expert in the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) HAZUS-MH application. His work with that application includes curriculum design as well as instruction of introductory through advanced courses in flood, earthquake, and hurricane modeling. He provides HAZUS-MH education at locations across the United States and is a senior instructor at the National Emergency Training Center/Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Maryland. In addition to serving as an educator, Kevin has managed and supported over 300 spatial technologies projects since joining The Polis Center in 1990. His responsibilities in these projects have included design, development, testing, implementation, and analysis of complex GIS applications, models, and databases. He has delivered dozens of presentations on geospatial topics at conferences and other forums around the world. Kevin is currently or has been involved in a variety of geospatial technology related committees. He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Indiana Geographic Information Council Board of Directors as well as the Finance Committee, and Indiana Board on Geographic Names. He also chairs the IGIC Education and Outreach Committee and has done so since 2000. In addition he chairs the Midwest HAZUS Users Group Steering Committee which supports the needs of HAZUS-MH users and beneficiaries in the Midwestern United States. Kevin also provides many hours of community service as a member of the District Committee of the Pioneer District of the Boy Scouts of America.
