Local Clergy once were frequently quoted on the front pages of newspapers.  Today, Indianapolis citizens rank clergy as having little or no influence on larger culture.  This segment will explore the myths and realities of clergy leadership over the last century.  We’ll look at what roles clergy once played in our community, how they are now perceived and how they perceive themselves, and in what ways the overall change in the religious landscape has forced a new role for religious leaders.  In this segment, we’ll hear from congregants, civic leaders and clerics about their respective expectations of clergy involvement in the public square.  We’ll also consider how theological education, congregational expectations and religious attitudes are likely to shape clergy involvement in the future.
