Six Indiana photographers documented aspects of religion and spirituality in Indianapolis in Falling Toward Grace, an exhibition of 75 photographs presented by The Polis Center in partnership with the Indianapolis Museum of Art. The exhibition ran from June 13 through Oct. 11, 1998 in the Steven G. Conant Galleries at the IMA.

A selection of the photographs in the exhibition appeared in The Polis Center’s book, Falling Toward Grace: Images of Religion and Culture from the Heartland, a collection of poems and essays by 21 Indiana authors published by Indiana University Press. The photo exhibition and book were part of the creative arts initiative of the Center’s Project on Religion and Urban Culture.

The exhibition featured the works of well-known Indiana photographers Kim Charles Ferrill, Darryl Jones, Tyagan Miller, Carl Pope, Ginny Taylor Rosner, and Jeffrey A. Wolin. The 75 black and white and color photographic essays examined religion and spirituality from six very different perspectives.

The exhibit later went on display at the Indianapolis Art Center.
